The Seville Biomedical Research Institute (IBIS)

The Seville Biomedical Research Institute (IBIS) was set up under an agreement between the Andalusian Department of Health, the Andalusian Department of Innovation, Science and Business, the Andalusian Health Service, Seville University and the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research. IBIS is configured as a research centre on a mixed, cooperative model in respect of its founders. IBIS’s mission is to help promote biomedical research in Spain, constituting a south-European centre of research excellence.
The building consists of laboratories, administrative areas and animal facilities. The animal facilities include divisions such as animal production, experimentation, operating theatres, an SPF area, a store and quarantine. Given the particular nature of each animal and area, each area has individual air conditioning.
The facilities installed in the complex include an air-conditioning system for the administrative areas, laboratories and animal facilities in line with their different needs and the applicable standards.
The air-conditioning system consists of an installation of four pipes with air treatment units that control temperature, humidity, air quality (particulates) and pressure (+/-). The facility has redundant equipment for the most critical systems and centralised control.
