Altamira Palace – Madrid

The Palacio de Altamira is an old palace that has been reformed to accommodate the classrooms and offices of the Italian Istituto Europeo di Design. The building comprises 2 zones, the classrooms housed in the palace and a newly-built annexe containing the offices. The classroom surface occupies 3,380 m2 distributed over 5 storeys (basement, ground, first and second floor and under-roof floor). The area occupied by offices covers 869 m2 on 5 floors (basement, ground floor, mezzanine, first and second floor).
The installations carried out by Imtech were the HVAC for classrooms and offices and air extraction in workshops.
The HVAC is a heat-pump-type VRV (variable refrigerant volume) system to provide heating or cooling according to the season of the year. Ventilation and air renovation in classrooms and offices is via recovery ventilators.
The workshop area also has extractors for the ventilation and renewal of the foul air produced by the machinery.
