Environmental resources centre – Valladolid

The PRAE Complex promotes the culture of sustainable development in its three aspects: social, economic and environmental. The building occupies a surface of 3,541 m². Imtech was charged with executing the HVAC, fire detection and extinction and solar panel installations and installation automation and management.
The general HVAC is an under-floor heating-cooling system that makes use of the thermal solar energy produced in the roof solar collectors by means of surface-mounted selective-absorption panels. The thermal radiation gains in the exhibition room provide considerable savings in heating during the winter, as the building’s special orientation provides radiation through the south-eastern façade, which is very high in the latitude in which the building is located. The projected thermal solar energy system also provides free cooling for the entire building through the use of an absorption cooler. It thus makes use during the summer of the thermal solar energy from the solar collectors to condition the building. Additionally, the system is completed with a biomass boiler that meets the building’s heating and DHW needs in periods of scarce sunlight.
