The consortium formed by Imtech and CSC (OHL group) has been awarded the contract for the project to install air conditioning and fire extinguishing systems during the first phase of the expansion of Dr. Gustavo Fricke Hospital, in Viña del Mar, Chile.

The expansion and renovation of this hospital is planned over two stages. The first stage consists of the construction of the architectural medical project, with an area of 96,403 m² distributed over eight floors, plus two underground floors and a heliport, and it will house 438 hospital beds and an additional 116 beds. It will also have 21 operating theatres and all of the diagnostic, therapy, industrial, logistical and administrative support units.

The new architectural design was devised to achieve a more sustainable use of energy. Some of the measures adopted will make it possible to reduce the effects of radiation and heat energy loss, enhance the natural light provided and reduce energy consumption associated with maintaining the indoor climate.

The new Dr. Gustavo Fricke Hospital is one of three hospital megaprojects in the area, along with the Marga Marga Hospital and the hospital that will serve the two provinces of Quillota and Petorca, and the investment for the construction of the new healthcare facility in Viña del Mar totals 300 million dollars.

This is the second contract to be awarded to Imtech Chile for the installation of mechanical systems in hospital complexes. Last year, Imtech was awarded the contract to install air conditioning, ventilation and centralized control systems in the new Exequiel González Cortés Hospital, in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile.
